It is a tradition in Zen to compose a poem -- expressing one's deepest understanding -- just prior to death. In the spirit of not-knowing... not knowing when death will come, certain only that it will, we write a Death Poem on New Year's Day.
This New Years Day rain
Dissolves the papier mache
Of self-improvement.
