I'm finally investigating this state of boredom. I've been tolerating it, but hadn't bothered to really take a good look at what it actually IS (thanks, Algernon!). Which is exactly the ground in which boredom thrives: "I've seen it all before." "I know what this is about." "Same ole same ole". It's a lot like looking through a ViewMaster. Remember those?
I'm finding boredom to be a subtle (sometimes not-so-subtle) expression of aversion. A turning away from what is. Those ViewMaster pictures are not real. There are only just the same 14 pictures, over and over again. Something comforting, predictable in that. But not life.

Yeah, aversion. That's what it looks like when I examine "boredom" as well. Sometimes there is even a wish hiding out in there. "I wish I were..." blah blah blah.
Indeed -- comparing to what was, or what I think it "should" be.
Great topic! I love boredom .... now. Wish I could find it but I read in one article that boredom signals a transition point, the moment just before something is about to transform. But in that moment we respond to the possibility by turning away or numbing out. Not sure if any of this holds water but now when I sit, I try to stay with the "boredom" aka notice the arising and falling sensations. Not much to report yet except that boredom is definitely not a loss of interest. Guess that's a start.
